VICTORIA STATE VISION

  • Empower and support student leaders in proaction over reaction

NAAUC RECOGNISES THAT SUPPORT AND ADVICE IS OFTEN THE MOST CRUCIAL RESOURCE IN ACTUALISING GREAT IDEAS WITHIN COLLEGE SPACES.

Where student leadership tenures span a mere year, leaders are tasked with rapidly adapting to their roles, navigating complexities, and addressing immediate challenges. NAAUC aims to support leaders in overcoming these challenges, so that they may be purpose-driven in their leadership to evolve college culture. Through creating strong on-the-ground connections with student leadership teams, providing training, and creating spaces for shared learning, NAAUC converts grassroots experience to tangible support.

We champion proaction over reaction; more so than learning to ‘put out fires,’ NAAUC empowers student leaders to think beyond the now and advance the legacy they hope to leave for their college culture.

  • Promote interconnectedness between student leaders

AS THE OVERARCHING BODY OF STUDENT LEADERS ACROSS AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY RESIDENTIAL LIVING SPACES, NAAUC IS BEST PLACED TO FACILITATE A STRONG NETWORK OF INTERCOLLEGIATE LEADERSHIP SUPPORT.

Creating academic and social spaces for leaders to share in their experiences enables the cross-pollination of ideas; this stimulates a culture of knowledge sharing tailored to the specific needs of their respective communities.

  • Promote diversity and inclusivity within college spaces

COMMUNITY SITS AT THE CORE OF COLLEGE CULTURE.

NAAUC envisions a future where every student feels included and celebrated for their quirks. By championing diversity initiatives and fostering an environment of acceptance and respect, NAAUC strives to create college communities that celebrate the unique perspectives and contributions of all college residents. Through targeted training and proactive outreach efforts, NAAUC aims to cultivate a culture where diversity is embraced as a strength that enriches the fabric of college life.

National Conference 2024

25th November - 1st December

The University of Sydney & Macquarie University

NAAUC National Conference creates a space where students from across Australia come together to discuss their residential experience and share their ideas about how it may be improved. With a range of academic seminars, workshops, panel discussions and keynote speakers, the conference empowers delegates, spur passion for leadership, and engage the diverse perspectives of students from residential communities across Australia.

The conference also provides unique social activities each day to allow delegates the opportunity to mingle, relax, network with their peers, and even get new ideas for events at their college.

Victoria NAAUC History

Hosting some of the most active College’s in the nation, Victorian and Melbourne Colleges have always played an important role in the National Association.

Melbourne University hosts some of the nation's oldest and most historic Colleges, many of which were founding members of the National Association. Colleges in Melbourne, like the city, have developed a highly evolved approach to residential communities, and have some of the most celebrated and inclusive communities in the country.

NAAUC has also had significant partnerships with residences urban and rural at Swinburne, Deakin, Latrobe and Federation Uni.

There is not a College in Victoria which hasn’t been connected to NAAUC throughout its history, and Melbourne Colleges have always played an important role in NAAUC’s management committee. In 2020, NAAUC’s President hailed from St Hilda’s College. NAAUC has drawn President’s from Queen’s College, Ormond College, and Mannix College, as well as Executive members from Trinity College and International House, all in the last ten years.

Over the past decade, NAAUC has hosted seven Conferences in Melbourne, at Queens College, Ormond College, St Hilda’s College, International House, and Mannix College.
