This year’s conference and academic theme is “legacy”. In a time of both exciting and challenging change in the sector, now more than ever student leaders should consider the state they are leaving their residence in. No longer is there space to be a placeholder- filling a position for a year until the next election. Instead, each position, and each individual, holds the incredible power to leave a place better than they found it- to leave a legacy to be proud of.

The nature of college leadership, with short tenures and a yearly cycle of incoming residents, means that one year can make a big difference. The theme “legacy” urges delegates to carefully consider their impact, and how the action they both do or do not take will last long beyond their tenure.

We’re committed to making the 2025 NAAUC Conference accessible and inclusive. A range of scholarships and bursaries are available, including support for high-achieving students, underrepresented voices, changemakers, and member college leaders. Travel bursaries are also offered to assist with transport costs.

We are thrilled to welcome Hannah Ferguson, co-founder of Cheek Media Co. and an advocate for critical media literacy. Hannah is a dynamic commentator, writer, and media entrepreneur recognised in Forbes 30 Under 30 for her contribution to media and entertainment. She is the author of Bite Back (2023) and Taboo (2024), works that explore politics, culture, gender, and the subjects often left unspoken.

With a background in law and a Master of Writing, Editing & Publishing from the University of Queensland, Hannah is committed to promoting critical media literacy and encouraging young people to question the stories they’re told. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle, and more, and she has spoken at the National Press Club on media power and political accountability.

It all took off on November, 2024, with the incredible success of NAAUC’s 54th Annual National Conference - a cornerstone gathering for student leaders from across Australia.

The Association is incredibly proud to appoint a team of passionate young student leaders who are dedicated to supporting their peers and residences across Australia. The passion and success that the 2024 team brought to their roles highlights our new team’s commitment to continue building upon our previous achievements. This year holds much promise for the Association, and we are excited to see what we can achieve in the coming year.

NAAUC can officially say that the 54th NAAUC National Conference was a great success! Held in Sydney, NSW, we met over 130 incoming student leaders late November. We cannot help but feel inspired and empowered by the next generation of student leaders in our nation.

This year, exploring the theme of Synergy, we saw delegates from every state in Australia together to guide our nation’s student leaders through the more specialised elements of cultivating community and culture in University residential communities. With leaders from 34 colleges across Australia attending National Conference, our team spent the week facilitating synergy between our attendees through our provision of leadership training and networking events.

With a clear purpose, set metrics, a realistic timeline, and specific action items, Grace College’s 2024 Pitch was named the winner of the Queensland State Finals, and then went on to present and win on the national stage.

The issue that Grace College identified was the lack of engagement in college life by international students at their residence. Through analysing their culture as a team and discussing the gaps in their inclusivity, Grace College pitched an international advisory board to provide advice and guidance for Student Club activities and events. 

The Grace delegates stressed the importance of making their home a safe and engaging place for international students, where everyone is comfortable to be themselves.

We look forward to seeing this in action in 2025. Congratulations, Grace College! 

Our focus for the 2024 National Conference is Synergy. We look forward to fostering a peer centred learning experience, enabling delegates to collaborate with like-minded peers and generate out of the box ideas to take back to their respective residences. With the main focus of ‘synergy’ we hope to see delegates confidence, professionalism and passion grow throughout the conference. 

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that after eight years, the National Association of Australian University Colleges (NAAUC) will be returning to Sydney for this year’s highly anticipated National Conference. We are honored to host the event at the distinguished Dunmore Lang College, which is proudly affiliated with Macquarie University.

Following on from the energy of our largest National Conference since 2018, the NAAUC Team have hit the ground running in the first quarter of 2024. This year we welcome a team of 22 highly experienced team members from six states and one territory across the nation.

The new Membership structure will allow us to focus on our strategic goals and our values, while creating avenues for NAAUC to do the work students want.

We are excited to be opening scholarship applications for the 2022 NAAUC National Conference. Scholarships provided by NAAUC will cover the cost of a National Conference ticket, and in some cases, associated travel costs. Should any students at your College or Residence be interested in attending NAAUC, we encourage you to notify them of scholarship opportunities.

Nothing compares to the feeling of seeing 200 faces speechless from an inspiring guest speaker, or a room full of delegates having the time of their life at an event, all the while knowing you help make it possible.
