NEW SOUTH WALES STATE VISION

  • Empower and Encourage Student Leaders

NAAUC BELIEVES THAT EMPOWERING AND ENCOURAGING STUDENT LEADERS IS CRITICAL TO CREATING A CULTURE OF INITIATIVE, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND VISION.

Through leadership opportunities student leaders hone many skills that help them make significant contributions to their communities and beyond. NAAUC offers a range of academic programs that are educational and beneficial for student leaders in residential settings at university. These programs are designed to encourage student leaders to identity various issues and concerns within their residences while also celebrating successes within their residential colleges. By providing opportunities for student leaders to interact with people from various residential settings around Australia NAAUC facilitates collective action through collaboration. NAAUC seeks to help a diverse group of students and residences turn ideas into tangible initiatives, fostering a vibrant, inclusive community by emphasising that effective leadership involves empathy, collaboration, and a commitment to realizing the collective potential of communities.

  • Improve Intercollegiate Relations

NAAUC IS COMMITTED TO CULTIVATING STRONGER BONDS AND COLLABORATION AMONG RESIDENTIAL COLLEGES IN AUSTRALIA.

In the New South Wales (NSW), NAAUC aims to enhance the interconnectedness of colleges by recognizing them as shared spaces where future leaders are nurtured and celebrated. Improving intercollegiate relations encourages unity and collaboration among residential communities. NAAUC aims to foster open communication channels and create spaces that allow college leaders to share ideas and promote mutual understanding within NSW as embracing diversity and inclusiveness cultivates intercollegiate relationships, creating a supportive atmosphere in which students may grow together. In NSW we look forward to a future where intercollegiate relations may be improved by working together to bridge gaps and unite people, paving the way for a more interconnected and dynamic college community.

  • Establish long-lasting partnerships

NAAUC HOPES TO ESTABLISH LONG-LASTING PARTNERSHIPS WITH COLLEGES BY LAYING FOUNDATIONS AND FOSTERING CONNECTIONS THAT LAST FOR YEARS TO COME.

Through open communication, shared decision making and collaborative activities NAAUC aspires to grow with colleges over the years. Although NAAUC has an established presence in some of the colleges in NSW it is also aiming to build connections with additional colleges in NSW by forming trust, mutual respect and having a shared vision for colleges and students. Investing in meaningful relationships with colleges and being flexible and adaptable to their needs over time is an important aspect of NAAUC’s goal of establishing long-lasting partnerships.

New South Wales NAAUC History

New South Wales, and the Universities housing some of Australia’s most vibrant College communities, University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, and Macquarie University, has been one of NAAUC’s longest standing members.

The Australian University College story begins in Sydney, with the creation of six of the nation's oldest and most storied Colleges. Similarly, NAAUC’s history begins in Sydney, with the inaugural NAAUC National Conference being held at the University of Sydney in 1967.

The Colleges at the University of Sydney have been central and significant members of the National Association since the role they played as founding members more than 50 years ago, leading the discussion on student leadership, the development of excellent young people, and the power of a College community run by passionate young people.

The University of New South Wales College’s have likewise been heavily involved in the Association in the past. Before the shift to trimesters, students at UNSW College’s formed the vast majority of those taking part in College state summits and NAAUC training programs.

Over the previous decade, NAAUC’s management committee has consisted heavily of Sydney and New South Wales representatives. In 2019, NAAUC’s President was a Sydney representative, hailing from Macquarie University. The last National Conference held in Sydney was the 2009 Conference at St Andrew’s College. NAAUC is looking forward to bringing the nations College leaders back to the most historic Colleges in the country in the coming years.
