North Queensland State Vision

  • Strengthening Intercollegiate Relations

NAAUC BELIEVES IN THE POWER OF STRONG INTERCOLLEGE RELATIONS IN BRINGING COLLEGES TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE POSITIVE OUTCOMES ON A LARGE SCALE.

We are a strong believer in the power that intercollege relationships can have in creating meaningful changes that extend beyond the walls of any one residence. Strong intercollege bonds bring students together from a variety of backgrounds with one commonality, being members of college communities.

Interdigitation between colleges allows for some of the most powerful conversations within residential environments as colleges are given the opportunity to grow and capitalize on the sharing of knowledge. Within Far North Queensland, NAAUC’s vision is to build upon the interconnectedness of colleges within the jurisdiction to celebrate the concept of colleges being shared spaces in which future leaders are created.

  • Enhancing NAAUC’s presence in the ACT

NAAUC SEEKS TO ADVOCATE FOR LEADERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND PROVIDE LEADERS WITH THE NECESSARY TOOLS TO TACKLE CHALLENGES WITHIN THEIR COMMUNITIES.

We acknowledge the opportunity for students to grow in college environments as they are exposed to diverse academic, social, and cultural experiences. As the peak representative body, NAAUC seeks to advocate for students living on res and strives to establish methods of improving the student living experience. NAAUC has a long history of advocacy within Far North Queensland and seeks to build upon this rich history of engagement to advocate for student leaders to the sector as a whole and provide the appropriate skill-building, networking, and education opportunities for its leaders.

  • Student Leadership Development & Support

NAAUC HAS A BROAD RANGE OF EDUCATION MATERIALS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SEMINARS THAT PROVIDE SPACE FOR LEADERS TO THINK ABOUT IMPORTANT ISSUES, TACKLE PRESSING QUESTIONS, AND SHARE IDEAS.

NAAUC appreciates the many intricacies involved in student leadership at a tertiary level and beyond. As such, it is our goal to upskill leaders where required and provide them with appropriate support during their time in leadership. We understand the importance of equipping leaders with the appropriate tools to excel in their roles and seeks to offer an opportunity for leaders to confront challenges in the way they see fit.

NAAUC National Conference creates a space where students from across Australia come together to discuss their residential experience and share their ideas about how it may be improved. With a range of academic seminars, workshops, panel discussions and keynote speakers, the conference empowers delegates, spur passion for leadership, and engage the diverse perspectives of students from residential communities across Australia.

North QLD NAAUC History

Queensland has always been one of NAAUC’s most engaged states, and formed a large part of the Association's membership over the past 10 years. In northern Queensland, Colleges at Townsville and James Cook University have played an outsized role in the Association for many years.

Over the past 10 years, NAAUC has held five National Conferences and Two Regional Conferences in Queensland, all of which have been outstanding successes. This speaks to the level of passion and commitment Queensland Colleges have for representing themselves on the national stage. Most recently, NAAUC held its 2022 National Conference at St John’s College UQ.

Each of the UQ St Lucia Colleges, as well as residences at the Gatton Campus, Toowoomba, and at Griffith University have all been involved with NAAUC in recent years, attending conferences, state summits, booking NAAUC On The Roads, and buying in as NAAUC members.

Further to the membership of Queensland Colleges, students from Queensland have formed a large part of NAAUC’s Executive Committee and wider management team. Currently, five of NAAUC’s team members are from UQ Colleges, and in 2021, The President of NAAUC hailed from the Women’s College UQ.

NAAUC will always treasure its connection to Colleges in Queensland, and we look forward to the continuing partnership in the future.
