NAAUC’s Statement on Respectful Student Living

In light of the recent circumstances at the University of Sydney, The National Association of Australian University Colleges (NAAUC) is deeply concerned by these recent reports associated with the residential colleges. We will not be commenting on the specific situation; however, this serves as an important reminder for all of us. Living in a residential college on campus is an incredible privilege, and with that privilege comes the responsibility to uphold policies that ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

Our mission at the National Association of Australian University Colleges is to empower student leaders and foster a campus culture where every student feels safe, respected, and valued. These events underscore the urgent need for nationwide cultural change within residential colleges. NAAUC remains steadfast in our commitment to leading this transformation. Together, we must work to create college environments where every student is valued, and where respect and accountability are non-negotiable. NAAUC is committed to collaborating with college leaders, university administrations, student advocates, and stakeholders to address these issues through meaningful reform.
