Academics: Afternoon Session

Over the course of the week, our Academic Sessions will cycle through two rotations. Our first session today consists of two academics, Leadership 101 and Residential Life: A Holistic Experience. Please head to either academic at 1pm for the first session, and switch for the second session beginning at 2pm.

Leadership 101: Understanding what leadership truly is can be one of the more nerve-racking parts of taking on new responsibilities as young student leaders. This seminar seeks to provide a framework for young leaders, or those aspiring to take on leadership positions to grow and succeed. Students will be asked to reflect on their personal style of leadership, and discuss the qualities that may assist in bringing out the best in themselves and their colleagues.

Location: Kaye Scott

Residential Life: A Holistic Experience: Residential life is a special and unique experience. As students living incolleges and university residences we know that, but sometimes we struggle to articulate the benefits. Residential Life: A Holistic Experience is an academic which asks the question, what is the purpose of life on res?

Over the course of an hour, you’ll be asked to reflect on your own experience, the history of your college or residence, and what the opportunity of leadership can provide you with, throughout your time in your role. We’ll examine some of the driving forces behind the residential experience, and break down what the experience can and does provide for young people. This academic helps to orient yourself over the conference week and obtain a clearer picture of what you can get from NAAUC and the National Conference.
